I think this was the first R&R movie I saw, also on PBS, I bet. I watched it a couple years back, rented the box set, in my endless pursuit to find a good live version of "Pictures of Lily." Unfortunately, MIP did not provide it....(bad sound mix).
I really enjoyed this piece! Back in the eighties, The Who, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Mamas and Papas initially drew me to Pennebaker’s film, but in the last 20 years, my interest was expanded to include both Otis Redding and Laura Nyro.
I was fortunate to attend the 40th anniversary of the film at the American Cinematheque, and during the pre-screening Q&A, I recall Pennebaker mentioning that Laura had held a lifelong belief that she had bombed at Monterrey.
Making a trip to the fairgrounds is on my bucket list!
pilgrimage: the Monterey International Pop Festival
Love this. The Fucking Tambourine is a great band name lol.
Terrific piece, Caryn!
This was wonderful! I would love to make this pilgrimage--I'm so glad to be able to do so a bit through your wriring.

Once again, Thanks for this post!
This is great!! I too have a pilgrimage story! I don’t want to steal your idea or theme. Maybe it could be a conversation? 🤔
